February 26, 2019- Pictured above are several Spartronics students supporting team member Merrill Keating at a city hall event. During the event, Mayor Kol Medina issued a proclamation declaring March of 2019 “Bainbridge Island Girl Up Month.” Bainbridge Island Girl Up, a club founded by Merrill, aims to promote gender equality and to support girls in STEM. Now that’s a mission Spartronics can get behind!
Every year, Spartronics hosts the only District FLL competition in the county, organizing all aspects of the event and providing volunteers and judges from its pool of students, mentors, and parents. The event helps to get both kids and community members excited about STEM and FIRST. Everyone’s welcome. In 2018, we even had Governor Jay Inslee attend (pictured above with three Spartronics students).
Our annual All-Robotics Open House attracts hundreds of attendees, including our mayor, city council members, and the superintendent of our school district. Everyone is welcome. Visitors are able to see our robot and talk to Spartronics team members, allowing students to convey their passion for STEM and FIRST. The Open House has also featured local FLL Junior, FLL and FTC teams, helping to create a cohesive robotics community on our island.
