More than 500 Bainbridge Islanders filled the hallways of Bainbridge High School the evening of March 2nd for the 3rd Annual Community Open House hosted by FIRST FRC Team 4915, Spartronics. The record turnout featured all 7 FIRST Robotics teams on the Island, including 4 FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams and 2 FIRST Tech Competition (FTC) teams. Students, mentors, coaches, parents, siblings, teachers, administrators, school district staff and community leaders were joined by hundreds of families from across island at the Open House.
Students team members from Spartronics gave ongoing presentations at multiple stations throughout the 300 building, which also housed the impressive work of the FTC and FLL teams. Sponsors, including representatives from Boeing (we have two Boeing mentors!), Sears & Associates, the Bainbridge Island School District, Jason “Mr.” Shutt | Realtor, Bainbridge Schools Foundation, Windermere, Westside Pizza and more turned out to show their continued support.
FRC Team 1778 – Chill Out! – was represented, traveling all the way from Mountlake Terrace! Co-Captain Kolin Hawkins welcomed him and showed Sam our 14″ student-built Omni Wheels. At the BHS 100 Building our new robot — ARES — demonstrated its ability to move over many of the STRONGHOLD game obstacles at the beginning of the Open House, and ATLaS, our first Worlds competition robot, was driven by many youngsters, and at least one 3-year old, under the careful guidance of team Co-Captain Robby Davis.
