Bainbridge High’s award-winning and championship competing FIRST (firstinspires.org) Robotics Team – the team the Bainbridge Review sponsors – Spartronics 4915 is hosting its 10th Anniversary Open House next Wednesday, May 10 from 5 pm to 7 pm.
This is an all-island Robotics team event as Spartronics, a student-led FIRST Robotics Team (FRC), will be joined by younger students from other local robotics teams, including a FIRST Lego League (FLL) team from St. Cecilia’s. There will be free refreshments at the event.
It will be held in the new CTE Building at Bainbridge High School – 100 Building – with students demonstrating robots in action as well as the mechanics, electronics, CAD design, and programming that goes into the creation of these robots. The Business and Marketing subteam will show the effort that goes into fundraising and promoting the team year-round with its community outreach activities and its massive online social media engagement.
FIRST Robotics was co-founded by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen and the late MIT Emeritus Professor Woodie Flowers in 1989. Their goal was to inspire young people’s interest in science and technology with robot-building activities dubbed “Sports for the Mind.” It’s known as the “only school sport where every student can turn pro if they choose.”
It’s a free event open to all ages!
